(AFNS) – Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James A. Cody will retire in early 2017, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Goldfein announced during an Air Force town hall here Sept. 20. As the 17th CMSAF, Cody provided direction for the enlisted force and served as the personal advisor to Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James and Goldfein on all issues regarding the welfare, readiness, morale, and proper utilization and progress of the enlisted force. “I have watched chief Cody in action,” Goldfein said. “I’ve been a fan ever since he became the chief master sergeant of the Air Force. I have watched him fight for Airmen at the highest levels of government, and If there’s ever a person that speaks truth to power, its chief Jim Cody. He’s been a great wingman, he’s been an incredible chief master sergeant of the Air Force.” Cody has served as the Air Force’s senior enlisted leader since 2013, and will retire with more than 30 years of service.
