In this edition of Spotlight Tech. Sgt. Alejandro Adames, a 301st Communications Squadron client systems technician, shares why he joined the military and his career goals.

Q: What did you want to do as a kid?

A: It’s a combination. I guess as a kid, everyone wanted to be an astronaut, policeman or a cowboy. I guess I wanted to be all three of them. I was 10 when the [Space Shuttle] Challenger tragedy happened and it kind of opened my eyes to a lot of things that, up until then, as a kid you don’t figure out. But I believe I ended up doing what I really wanted to do, which is join the military.

Q: Why did you join the military?

A: I joined the military because when I graduated high school, there were a lot of career paths that were available, but I saw more of a future being in the military than not. So I signed up.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I’m somewhat mechanically inclined, dealing with technology. I’m always tinkering with something. Whether it's here at work or at home, I'm always fixing something... taking it apart and putting it back together.

Q: What is something people don’t know as well about you?

A: I served in the Navy before joining the Air Force.

Q: What is your favorite part of the job?

A: It has to be the day-to-day challenges ... I believe that’s my favorite part of the job -- finding those things that others have given up working on, to find the solution.

Q: What are your career goals?

A: I definitely would like to continue my military career. I think chief master sergeant is a good goal to have. The moment we stop looking upwards is when we start becoming stale, and that’s not something I look forward to. I think the more we strive for greatness, or move towards something better, the better off we’ll be.
