Welcome to Detachment 3, 20th Operations Group at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base, Texas! Det 3 is one of the first F-16 Fighting Falcon active associates under the Total Force Integration initiative. It is comprised of active duty Airmen assigned to the 301st Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command F-16C+ wing. Within an active associate such as this, members are integrated into the existing AFRC unit. The Reserves own the aircraft, equipment and buildings while we supply them with additional manpower.

The 301st FW is the only Air Force Reserve fighter unit in the state of Texas. The mission of the wing is to provide commanders in chief and major commands with combat ready warriors they need to operate our Expeditionary Air Force, fight and win America's wars, and protect our worldwide interests.

The detachment will grow from a small contingency to more than 150 Airmen. Members will be comprised of both experienced and first-term Airmen. With few exceptions, Det 3 members will be fully integrated into the 301st FW. For example, the 301st FW commander will oversee operational direction, while the Det 3 commander will handle administrative and personnel issues.

This is a fairly unique situation and probably different than any other assignment you may have had. You will be an active duty member in an AFRC wing, on a Navy base. With this situation comes several key differences and a few challenges. For example, base housing is limited, so depending on rank, you will be expected to live off base.
