As a way of saying thanks to reservists and to show its appreciation, the 301st Fighter Wing hosted a Family Day here June 4.

The day was not only dedicated to wing Airmen, but also to the entire 301st FW family, including spouses, civilians and their families.

"The wing Family Day was an incredible success," said Lt. Col. Kathryn Smith, 301st Force Support Squadron commander. "We had approximately 3,000 people attend, including Airmen and their families."

The day started with a 2011 Community College of the Air Force graduation ceremony. Afterwards, spouses were invited to briefings about key-spouse programs and Military OneSource. Several family-oriented events were held, including a car and motorcycle show, carnival games, bounce houses and a softball tournament. The 301st Maintenance Group Commander Lt. Col. Max Stitzer's band, 7-Car Pileup, entertained the crowd with rock, pop and country music. In addition to games and entertainment, Family Day included a picnic lunch. The Air Power Council helped cook hamburgers, hotdogs and brisket.

The success of the Family Day can be attributed to the wing' s units' collective and enthusiastic efforts.. The units and other volunteers worked seamless to put together this successful event, Colonel Smith said.
