The Joint Service General Purpose Mask (JSGPM), AKA M50, is replacing the current MCU2 series mask. The JSGPM is the latest generation mask to be used within the DoD.

Lightweight, increased comfort, less breathing resistance, the ability to change out the filters in a contaminated environment, user friendly drinking system and an accessory carrier for all individual chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear self aid items are a few of the improvements of this new mask.

The wing transition to the JSGPM will begin in January 2011. Unit Emergency Management Representatives (UEMRs) are the unit POCs for this transition. Individuals remain responsible for the maintenance and inspection of their mask.

A transition team consisting of emergency management, supply, medical, and bioenvironmental personnel are developing a unit priority listing for this transition. Transition will be completed unit by unit to ensure deployable personnel are trained, sized, and fit tested (as necessary) before moving to the next unit. The existing MCU2 series mask will continue to be used pending completion of the unit's transition.
