Personnel from the 301st Fighter Wing Maintenance Group welcomed Col. John ‘Nemo’ Nemecek as their new commander during a change of command ceremony at U.S. Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas on August 8, 2021. 301 FW Commander Col. Allen ‘Jaks’ Duckworth was the presiding official and he transferred the wing’s MXG leadership authority from outgoing commander Col. David Edwards to Nemecek.

“We had a very competitive list of candidates and Nemo was right there at the top,” said Duckworth. “We are glad he's here and I cannot wait to work with him and see the amazing things he will do here. It’s so great to have him back here in Fort Worth.”

Nemecek first came to the 301st Fighter Wing in 2008 where he served for two years as a quality assurance officer within the same MXG he is now in command of. In 2010, he became the commander of the 301 FW Maintenance Squadron and would eventually serve the maintenance group as its deputy commander from 2012 - 2020. Once in command, Nemo addressed his new Airmen.

“It’s so great to be back home in Fort Worth,” said Nemecek. “Many of you know me and know my leadership style. My number one priority is our Airmen... it always will be. I had the opportunity to get to speak with [the 20th Chief of Staff of the Air Force] Gen. Mark A. Welsh III for several hours and I asked him what he thought was the secret to his success. He replied, 'I woke up everyday thinking of ways to take care of my Airmen. Because if you do that, they'll take care of the mission.' So that's my mantra for the rest of my life and it's what I'm gonna do."

Nemecek also shared how accountability at all levels within the group, good character and a cultivating a culture of treating people with respect is going to happen under his leadership and it will start with him demonstrating those same qualities he expects from his force.

Prior to his current position, Nemecek served as the Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Director, Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection, U.S. Space Force, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
