The 301st Fighter Wing received more than 200 boxes of cookies from the Girl Scouts, here March 6.

Girl Scout Troop 1651, from Arlington, Texas, collected boxes of donated cookies from customers and then personally distributed them among 301st Airmen, as part of the Troop-to-Troops (T2T) program.

This program accepts donations of cookies from people in the community and then sends them to military members all over the world. More than 10,000 boxes of cookies were mailed or personally delivered by Girl Scout troops last year, according to the T2T website.

Tech. Sgt. Eric Fierro, 301st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron avionics specialist and father of one of the scouts, was there to watch his daughter hand out cookies.

“When she sells cookies, people want to donate,” he said. “They find out her dad is part of the military, so they feel they’re donating directly to me. So she’s proud of me and she’s very proud of collecting donations for the Troop to Troops program.”

Fierro’s daughter, Saphira Fierro, was appreciative of what her dad and other Airmen do.

“It’s really cool because he’s taking care of our whole country,” Saphira said. “And I really like it.”

Saphira, along with her troop, set up a table to display and hand out the cookies. This was her third year to participate in the program.
“Airmen were really nice to me,” the 9-year-old said.

Girl Scout cookies were popular among Airmen, one of whom was Tech. Sgt. Jeffrey Irby, 301st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron weapons load crew chief.

“My kids will be overjoyed that I thought about them during the day,” he said. “Here in the Air Force, especially the 301 FW, family takes precedence. It shows that they’re thinking about the whole picture, not just the individual.”

With the wing, Troop 1651, and the local community keeping service members and their families in focus, the sky is the limit.
