A chaplain candidate learns how to negotiate for food in a simulated deployed environment during a counterintelligence exercise Sunday, July 21 at Fort Wolters, Mineral Wells, Texas. The exercise was part of Patriot Defender, a time where candidates learn what deployed life can be like for chaplains by engaging in multiple class and hand-on training exercises. Patriot Defender is part of a five-week tour candidates embark on to see if they want to become chaplains. It is also a time when chaplain cadre can evaluate candidates and see if they would be a good fit for the program. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Melissa Harvey)
